On their debut It’s Dark But It’s Okay (released 4/27) Notic Nastic generously reshapes parts of Ladytron with Chicks on Speed, and adds a pinch of The Knife to put you in their ballpark. A NY/Berlin concoction punctuated by driven beats and dense afterdark, partygirl vocals. The twisted atmosphere is completely tick-tock upbeat. Tracks like Highend Weirdo and The Luckiest Pig in Albany do a booty good. Humorous lyrics are only further fancified with charismatic pause and flippant retro amped-up sound-effects, dipping into the last two decades with a full steam ahead attitude. Shorter instrumental pieces add to the chaotic fun here (Fjord Escort, Banana Hammock). Watch for wild costumed stage shows come Summer.
