Yoko Ono’s Warzone

Yoko Ono‘s chilling new full-length album Warzone (Chimera Music) will be released in October, though we are getting a glimpse of it with a few months advance with a video depicting the title track. One of the exciting things for me, aside from getting a new recording from Ono, who always puts out intriguing work, is that included in these compositions are field recordings of various animals like wolves, monkeys, marine life and various children’s voices. She’s also worked with Marc Ribot and cellist Eric Friedlander (among a handful of others) on this effort, so you know it will be out of the ordinary. The record will include a baker’s dozen of newly envisioned versions of tracks she’s previously released over the past four decades. Ono’s own drawings provide the cover art as well.

The album will be released on her son Sean’s label, and one song per week will appear via the website: ImaginePeace.com. Just Imagine! Many additional animated text-based videos have begun to be circulated, so you can get a first-ear glimpse at most of the tracks in advance of its release:
